Workshop of the Reformation

Workshop of the Reformation (WotR) was a small woodworking business located in North Carolina. Caleb and Wynston, the proprietors of this business, made high-quality crates, guitars, and planters. Wynston commissioned me to design the business’s branding. I leaned into the woodcut aesthetic for the logo, which consists of a hammer and nails arranged in a manner meant to imply the chi rho symbol (☧). This woodcut approach not only suits the handcrafted aesthetic of Caleb and Wynston’s work but also the primary illustrative methods of the Reformation — which occurred at a time when woodcuts were incredibly popular. This is embodied in the work of famous printmaker Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528), whose style has inspired me.
